Приєднався 11 лют 2016
WE670 explores the history, culture and lifestyles of the Mariana Islands through the stories of her people. Our mission is to foster an ongoing discussion about who we were, who we are and who we want to become as Pacific Islanders, citizens and community members of the Marianas.
From PROAs to EVs: The Future of How We Move in the Marianas ft. Shigeki Tenorio
The Proa is a voyaging outrigger canoe that was utilized by the ancient Chamorros, often regarded by many outside accounts as one of the most fascinating and advanced forms of watercraft at the time, and it remains a symbol of exploration and adventure for the people of the Marianas. In 2023, we are faced with new concerns and considerations when it comes to efficient, reliable and sustainable transportation. Shigeki Tenorio, son of the Marianas and Operations Manager at Pacifica Insurance, discusses what the future of movement can look like in the islands and how the introduction of electric vehicles can help us to carry on our legacy as voyagers.

Pugua Past & Present: Protecting Traditions While Healing Addictions w/ Sami Birmingham-Babauta, MPH
Переглядів 43210 місяців тому
Chewing betel nut or pugua has remained a social and cultural custom in the Marianas for centuries. Over the years, this ritual has turned into an addiction for some, an effect that can be attributed to new additives and a lack of resources aimed at supporting those who wish to kick the habit. Sami Birmingham-Babauta, a daughter of the Marianas and current PhD candidate, explores the factors th...

The ancient Chamorros were described as healthy people who lived long lives. These traits were attributed to their diet and the physical requirements of their environment at the time. In 2023, the CNMI has become accustomed to a variety of new foods, as well as new challenges that arise when trying to balance our eating habits with living a healthy lifestyle. Lei Tenorio, a daughter of the CNMI...

You look like filipinos!
Sorry, you SHOULD THANK YOUR GUAM ANCESTORS because they had to assimilate with the NASTY COLONIZERS. You know what happened to the Natives here in North America, when they fought their children were taken to reservations and then some vanished. Their language vanished, they only not gathering from other tribes to build their First Nation language. So when you curse at your ancestors and put blame on them..think if they didn't follow these invaders..you would not be here ok! I LOST MY LANGUAGE BECAUSE OF THE DARN BRITISH, PORTUGESE AND DUTCH..I AM ANGRY BUT NOT AT MY GRANDPARENTS, NOT AT MY ANCESTORS..BECAUSE I KNOW THE HELL THEY WENT THROUGH TO SURVIVE.

Well done! Entertaining and informative :)
What happened to you guys? No more videos?
I grew up in that Hyatt - it's good to know that the Teppanyaki is still there. My parents worked for the government and they had meetings there all the time.
Nahh, Love just doesn't exist over here!!!! People here are just faking their niceness!!!
What do you mean?
Are you guys not doing this style of videos out exploring anymore? I love them. We are moving to saipan nov 1 and hope our paths cross.

Thank you for this episode. I haven't seen you pop up on my feed ever since subbing, so I'm glad to see this. I miss Saipan so much. I left in "98 and hvent been back...born and raised there too. Sending love from Vegas
Thank you, Elizabeth! There's a lot more to come, so stay tuned. Sending you love from the islands.
Håfa adai! I’m doing research on precolonial CHamoru food and practices and I haven’t found any source that definitively says we ate with our hands. I’m sorry if this is a silly/dumb question, because i assume we did eat with our hands. But I just wanted someone or a source to confirm! Saina ma’åse para este infotmasion i learned a lot from this video!
Hafa Adai! Not at all. The information in this video was taken from the NMI History textbook. From what I read, nothing specifically stated that we ate with our hands, but there is a passage about the ancestors making what I guess you can consider dish ware? Like plates and pots, stuff like that. I didn't see anything about utensils being made, so it's very possible they did eat with their hands, but that's just an assumption. I'm sure there's more information in the textbook, but I chose only a few passages that pertained to the topic of the episode. I would try getting a copy of the textbook, or contacting someone from the Northern Marianas Humanities Council. They have a great archive and I'm sure you would be able to find something there, or at the very least, they could point you in the right direction. Hope this helps.
Being from CNMI I thought they’re more fluent in chamoru than Guam
There called warriors😁
God i havent seen Matilda in forever (i am not going to watch any remakes, the original is perfect as is)
Exactly! This is the correct opinion.
Sounds like someone got a taste of that good Chamorro sausage lol. ❤
Look like the Goddess she is!!!!
Saipan is not 10 years behind the states 😂. We don’t have shootings every day like the states.
😂😂😂. Saipan is where you come to face your demons and get your shit straight.
Lmfao. It is my shitty island!!!
Sheila raises valid questions. Truth, having a voice, vulnerability to China, and several other spot on topics. Being a sacrificial lamb for the U.S. military is a no go. This is coming from a veteran too. Love you my peoples.
❤ to all my fellow Chamorros on the same road.
You forgot to mention the dreaded Saipan leopard! 🐆🐆🐆
